The Institute through one of our partners, the Institute of Public Administration of Canada has scheduled a study mission for Honourable Speakers of East African devolved Legislative Assemblies to visit the Legislative Assembly of Ontario Province based in Toronto Canada.

The visits are scheduled to take place between 17th and 24th January 2025. We have identified Ontario Parliament as a premier example of an effective legislative house with high ranking on legislative, oversight and representation functions of a decentralized system.

Ontario Assembly would offer invaluable insights and learning opportunities for the delegation. The primary objectives of this visit are as follows:

  1. Understanding the Management of Legislative Functions in devolved or decentralized system: Ontario Legislative Assembly is renowned for its exemplary performance. Our delegation will gain firsthand knowledge of the strategies, processes, and best practices in this area. This understanding will be instrumental in enhancing their capacities of legislative work within their respective assemblies.
  2. Interaction with Experts and Advisors: The interactions between our delegation and the experienced legislators and professionals within the Ontario Assembly will provide our delegation with practical insights and advice that can be applied to improve governance and public administration in their regions.
  3. Learning from the Canada’s Success in Quality Service Provision: Canada is widely acknowledged for its high standards in public service delivery. By observing the operations of Ontario Legislative Assembly, our delegates hope to understand the mechanisms and policies that have contributed to such success to implement similar practices to enhance service quality.

The mission will involve attendance of sessions in Ontario Legislative Assembly, meetings with key officials, site visits, and presentations on Ontario Legislative Assembly’s operations and achievements.

We believe that this visit will foster a valuable exchange of knowledge and strengthen the ties between our two countries. We are confident that the insights gained will significantly contribute to the professional growth of our delegates and the advancement of legislative work.
